Community
Leadership Development
At Carrabassett Valley Academy, leadership is a key part of our community. Students lead dish duty crews, campus clean-up teams, community clubs, and can run for student council. They may also serve as Peer Mentors, Peer Tutors, or join the National Honor Society. These roles help students build essential leadership skills for life beyond CVA.
Peer Mentors Program
CVA Peer Mentors guide and support fellow students, fostering a safe and positive environment. Peer Mentors are trained in suicide prevention and Mental Health First Aid, acting as a bridge between students and staff to address concerns and promote a healthy culture.

Fall Peer Mentor Activity

Students in grades 10-12 can apply, demonstrating service, leadership, and character. Applicants must be approachable, empathetic, and trustworthy. The selection process is thorough, with input from faculty, coaches, and current peer mentors.
Peer Tutors
The CVA Peer Tutor program fosters student leadership and enhances academic support. Approved by teachers in multiple subjects, tutors are trained to guide peers and accommodate different learning styles. A tier system recognizes tutors based on their hours of service each academic year.
National Honor Society
The Carrabassett Valley Academy National Honor Society chapter fosters enthusiasm for scholarship, service, leadership, and character development.
Full-year students can qualify for NHS in the second trimester of their sophomore year or junior year. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 90 and attend CVA for at least one trimester.
The CVA NHS chapter leads various community service projects, including hosting the Special Olympics.

Student Council
The Student Council represents student interests by planning and hosting community events and collaborating with school officials. It is a student-run organization that meets weekly, with members elected by their peers through a democratic process.
Community Advocates
CVA CommUNITY Advocates aim to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and safe. The group promotes awareness and unity, preparing students to advocate for inclusivity beyond CVA. Open to all employees and students, meetings and activities occur a few times a month on a random schedule.
Community Service
CVA plays an important role in supporting the surrounding community of Sugarloaf and Carrabassett Valley. All students are expected to participate in school-sponsored community service projects throughout the school year. Events include the Special Olympics, canned food drives, the Carrabassett Valley Spring Clean-Up, and Sugarloaf work days.
